I’m Jacquie, and I moved to flower farming after years of growing vegetables and a lifelong love of gardening, shaped by my parents and grandfather, who were always outside planting something. Memories of a childhood spent picking wildflower bouquets in the fields around a dairy farm and of hot summer days being tasked with shoveling a manure pile whenever we complained of boredom to my grandfather, are at the heart of my gardening obsession.

Cascadilla Flowers is named for nearby Cascadilla Creek, a nod to the creek that runs through our neighborhood and the many waterfalls that make Ithaca so special.

During the pandemic, I started growing annual flowers. It didn’t sit right with me that most flowers sold in the U.S. are imported from far away, so I focus on seasonal, locally adapted blooms, including varieties that don’t ship well.

With a background in biology and teaching, I strive to grow things and improve each season. I love the beauty of the blooms and learning from both successes and mistakes in the garden.
